It's Okay to Pursue Your Best

I have often struggled with the idea of working hard at things that I want to get better at.  I have felt like if I am not careful, I may pursue things that God does not want me to pursue.  While this is a righteous concern, I feel like I have not viewed it correctly.

It is true that I must always be surrendered to the Lord.  I must make sure that I am not pursuing things that He does not want me pursuing.  I must make sure that I am seeking Him in everything that I do and pursue.  However, that is with pursuits.  I feel God revealing to me that when I identify something that I can get better at, it is okay to do this.  Below explains...

I can identify things that I want to get better at, and then work hard to get better at them for God's glory.  I can then give God my improved talents and say, "God please take these and use them as you see fit.  How do you want to use these talents?  What do you want to accomplish through them?"  This I believe is righteous.  What would be unrighteous is if I was striving to get better at something to bring glory to myself.  For instance, striving to get better at golf so that I could make lots of money and be famous.  That would not be a righteous desire.  However, if I am striving to get better at golf and then say, "God, I am surrendered to you.  Please take these talents and use them as you see fit".  There is nothing wrong with that.  In fact, it is righteous because God calls us to always give Him our very best.  He calls us to work our hardest at all times to manifest and develop the talents He has given us.  Working hard as working for Him, to bring glory to Him, that is righteous.
