Great athletes don't settle. Whether it be in the midst of competition or between competitions, they always seek to accomplish more. It should especially be this way for the Christian athlete. They should always be seeking to give God more of their best, and getting better so that their best can glorify Him more and more and with increased levels of performance. You are not being responsible with your talents if you are not striving to get them better and accomplish more with them.
This idea can be related to the rich man who gave talents to his workers. He was proud of the ones who went and invested the talents and made a profit, but was extremely ashamed of the one who buried the talent in the ground and made no profit. I must always seek to increase my talents, getting them better so that my performance can bring about increased "profit" for God and His glory. And in the process of doing this, I can worship Him by making sure my attitude is one of worship and surrender to Him.
